Trio Fantasy Camp XII (2011) Highlights

2011 Kingston Trio Fantasy Camp Campers
Fantasy Camp 12 Was
Another Magical Happening!!
We said Kingston
Trio Fantasy Camp 11 was a true "happening." Kingston Trio Fantasy Camp 12 was another one! Truly magical once again, KTFC went off with out a hitch.
Tom Delisle
MC'd the show each night and and was once again so funny he had everyone
doubled over.
Camp officially started at 4:00 pm on Wednesday August 10th with a wonderful class taught by our resident professor Jim Moran, on "The History of Irish Folk Music and its Influence on The Kingston Trio and Other American Folk Groups." The class was a huge success and we plan on asking Jim to teach another class for Kingston Trio Fantasy Camp 13, to be held August 8th - 11th 2012. Jim's class is open to everyone.
The welcome dinner for the campers soon followed and after dinner camp was in full swing! The campers introduced themselves
and then The Kingston Trio did a few numbers. Then the jamming began.
Days
were once again taken up by rehearsals & workshops, the evenings by the
shows, and the after hours by jamming. The shows were amazing!! The campers are really excellent and Tom Delisle is the perfect Master of Ceremonies.
Guest entertainment
this year was Josh White, jr., Jim & Salli Ratts from Denver (where they
have a band called the Runaway Express), and Jim Connor, banjo frailer extrordinaire. This was Jim's first trip to KTFC, and he had us spellbound with his beautiful compostion "The Mist." That man can frail!
The campers
each had a solo with members of The Kingston Trio, and also 3
songs with their camp trios, spread out over 3 nights.
The song choices this year were really great. Some more obscure Kingston Trio songs were dusted off and performed superbly by the campers.
The "Limeston Trio surprised us again by performaning "Folk Rap." What a hoot! Highlights this year were Jane List winning camper of the year, Barbara Cray's hilarious rendition of "The Shape of Things." and Bob Shane's induction into the AZ Musical Hall of Fame.
